Getting to Know: Buttock Implants

Buttock implants are made to enhance the buttock area and to lift this portion in cases of medium skin flaccidity. The buttocks are shaped particularly to enhance the gluteus maximus muscle area creating a more attractive shape to the buttocks.

The buttocks’ shapes are determined by the fullness of 3 gluteal muscles that include gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus and by the lumbosacral curve at the bottom part of the spine. Lack in muscle mass or lack in the angle of the lower spine’s curve can bring about the small projection of the butt. This is what some patients complain about their bodies. Also, the buttocks are a part of the body that keeps some body fat that gives way to the prominence of a person’s buttock cheeks. A lot of physically active people who exercise in order to reduce their overall body fat will tend to lose the fat in their gluteal areas and see that their buttocks’ projection is reduced because of this.

The main idea of getting the best result is balance. For a patient who is not able to achieve their ideal buttock shape, buttock implants or gluteal implants may help them. The implants are placed beneath the muscle of each buttock part by a single incision overlying the tailbone. The gluteal implants are placed in such a way that they will appear as natural as ever for the best cosmetic results.

Since the buttocks are the parts that each patient uses for various daily activities like sitting, walking and going up the stairs, most patients may suffer more discomfort and pain while recovering from the surgery compared to other surgical procedures. The recovery time is also a little bit longer. Pain medications that will be prescribed by the surgeon can help ease the pain and discomfort. However, the patient should give 5 to 7 days before going back to activities such as walking, moving and sitting comfortably. The patient will also experience bruising and swelling after the procedure and the final outcome can be appreciated 2 to 3 weeks after the surgery.
